Don’t Replace One Evil With Another

Don’t Replace One Evil With Another

Huge numbers of us are stopping the consumption of meat and dairy, which attack our health in many ways. Another reason to quit them is the environmental damage their production does. Not being directly involved in the suffering of our fellow creatures is  a wonderful reason for more enlightened humans to give up these non-foods.

To assume that all plant foods are safe and healthy, however is extremely naive. Most new vegans are concerned about not getting enough protein, and making sure they get some “complete” protein. This has shown itself to be a non issue. A complete protein is not necessary, and most of us get way too much protein. A diet that supplies enough calories to get you through the day will contain all the protein you need—even if you are a serious body builder, as I am. This is not a matter of opinion—I KNOW this to be true.

I want to hip you to two non foods from the plant kingdom–wheat, and the even more detrimental–soy. Soy contains many antinutrients. Aflotoxin, also found in peanuts and corn can cause cancer in the stomach, lungs, and other organs. Soy even has a toxin unique to it called soyatoxin. Even lightly processed soy like edamame contains these. Most soy (and wheat) these days is GMO. If it’s not, it still undermines your health in other significant ways, too numerous to list here. Check out my book: The Neverending Buzz for more about this underappreciated menace to health.
